NBA insider Shams Charania, reporting for The Athletic and Stadium, reveals Jimmy Butler’s preference to continue his association with the Miami Heat. Amid his eligibility for extension this offseason, NBA correspondent Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald anticipates Butler aiming for a two-year extension valued at approximately $113 million.
In the upcoming season, Butler is set to earn $48.8 million, with a subsequent player option of $52.4 million for the 2025-26 term. However, Butler’s absence due to a knee injury during this year’s postseason saw the Heat succumb to a five-game defeat against the Boston Celtics.
Despite this setback, Butler’s on-court contributions remain noteworthy, boasting an impressive stat line of 20.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game across 60 appearances this season. Throughout his career, spanning stints with the Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves, Philadelphia Sixers, and the Heat, Butler has garnered six All-Star selections, along with accolades from five All-NBA and All-Defensive teams.
Speculation arises regarding Butler’s future should the Heat fail to extend his contract, with murmurs suggesting a potential trade request. Nevertheless, no concrete reports substantiate such claims. Among the interested parties, the Philadelphia Sixers, where Butler previously played 55 games in the 2018-19 season, emerge as contenders for his services.
According to NBA reporter Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Sixers are closely monitoring Butler’s situation and are prepared to offer him a maximum-salary extension if circumstances align, particularly if Butler seeks a move away from Miami. With a projected cap space of approximately $60 million this offseason, the Sixers aim to bolster their roster following a first-round playoff exit against the New York Knicks in six games.
