Championship side Sheffield Wednesday ‘agree fee’ to sign former Southampton and Birmingham City defender

Sheffield Wednesday reportedly reached an agreement to acquire Yan Valery, a defender from Angers. The 25-year-old is familiar to Owls head coach Danny Rohl from his tenure at Southampton in England. Wednesday is nearing completion of their first summer transfer as they approach the official opening of the transfer window on Friday.

Sources indicate that personal terms have been agreed upon with Valery, who had also attracted interest from Montpellier and Standard Liege. Despite these links, Wednesday appears to have emerged as the preferred destination for the Tunisian international, who previously played at Birmingham City during his time in England. The finalization of the deal is contingent upon a medical examination, expected to take place next week.

Valery accumulated 53 appearances over four seasons at Southampton, where he arrived in 2015 from the Rennes academy. During his tenure at St Mary’s, he briefly joined Birmingham on loan and featured prominently last season for Angers, participating in 35 league matches as the club secured promotion from Ligue 2.

Additionally, Sheffield Wednesday is in advanced negotiations to secure the services of left-back Max Lowe, who recently departed city rivals Sheffield United. A medical assessment could occur by the end of the week. Lowe, having previously emerged from Derby County’s academy, crossed rival lines to join Nottingham Forest on loan. His career ascent included representation in various English youth teams.

Moreover, Wednesday has been linked with experienced goalkeeper Ben Hamer and young forward Mika Biereth as part of their ongoing efforts to strengthen the squad for the upcoming season.
