ANAHEIM – The Angels today acquired INF Luis Guillorme from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. In a corresponding 40-man roster move, INF Anthony Rendon has been transferred to the 60-day injured list
The Los Angeles Angels have announced on Thursday morning that they have traded with the Atlanta Braves to acquire infielder Luis Guillorme. In return, the Angels will either send a player to be named later or cash considerations to the Braves. In order to make room on their 40-man roster, Los Angeles has transferred Anthony Rendon to the 60-day injured list.
Guillorme had appeared in nine games for Atlanta this season. He was hitting .150 with a .440 OPS and -0.3 WAR, and he had logged just one at-bat since April 25.
In January, Guillorme inked a one-year deal worth $1.1 million with the Braves. Having spent the previous six seasons with the New York Mets, Guillorme showcased respectable performance metrics between 2020 and 2022, batting .278 with a .711 OPS and accumulating a 2.7 WAR across 200 games.
However, the Braves didn’t witness similar output from Guillorme early in the current season. Despite his subdued offensive contributions, he offered consistent defensive support coming off the bench. Nonetheless, Atlanta decided to part ways with the 29-year-old infielder.
Now transitioning to the Los Angeles Angels, Guillorme enters a team grappling with injuries to key players like Rendon, Sano, and Stefanic, all sidelined on the injured list. Meanwhile, Drury and Rengifo are listed as day-to-day.
While Guillorme primarily manned second base recently, he possesses extensive experience at both third base and shortstop, rendering him a versatile asset for the Angels amidst their injury woes, despite his modest offensive capabilities.
The Angels are set to commence a four-game home series against the Kansas City Royals, but it remains uncertain whether Guillorme will immediately secure playing time or at-bats at the major league level.
