A few days ago, we talked about how it looked like the Minnesota Vikings were satisfied to turn the duties at left guard over to Blake Brandel, a sentiment that seemed to be echoed by no less a source than offensive coordinator Wes Phillips.
Well, it appears that if Brandel is going to be the starter at left guard, he’s going to have to earn it by beating out the incumbent.
The #Vikings have agreed to terms with LG Dalton Risner, a source says. @AdamSchefter was on it.

Alec Lewis of The Athletic, via Adam Schefter of ESPN, is reporting that the Vikings are re-signing offensive lineman Dalton Risner. The terms of the deal have not yet been made available, nor has a corresponding roster move been announced.
Risner spent the first four years of his career with the Denver Broncos, and the Vikings signed him as a free agent in September of last year. He took over the starting role at left guard following the Vikings trading Ezra Cleveland to the Jacksonville Jaguars. He started the final 11 games for the Vikings and had been out there in free agency since the start of the new league year.
There have been fans wondering out loud why the Vikings hadn’t already signed Risner, citing that he performed fairly well as the starter for the team last season. Now, the team is bringing him back to, presumably, be the starter at the same left guard spot, though given what the team has said about Brandel there might actually be a legitimate competition to keep an eye on during Training Camp for that spot.
When anything about the deal is announced or a corresponding roster move is made, we’ll update this story.
Welcome (back) to Minnesota, Dalton Risner!
