Latest Chelsea news and gossip as Man United reportedly look set to make a decision that could impact the Blues’ search for a new manager
Manchester United have reportedly made a decision regarding Erik ten Hag’s future which could impact Chelsea.
According to The Guardian, Man United have decided to sack Ten Hag this weekend following the conclusion of the FA Cup final. Saturday will see United face Manchester City in the tournament’s showpiece fixture at Wembley Stadium.
Man United finished eighth in the Premier League table and will only qualify for Europe with a victory over Man City in the FA Cup final. As a result of a disappointing campaign, the report claims that the Old Trafford hierarchy have decided to part company with Ten Hag regardless of if he guides the club to victory at Wembley.
The article goes on to list several candidates who are being lined up to replace Ten Hag. One of them is Kieran McKenna, who guided Ipswich Town to promotion to the Premier League this season from the Championship.
Should United make an attempt to appoint McKenna, who left Old Trafford in 2021 as Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer’s assistant to take on the role of manager at Ipswich, it could have an effect on Chelsea. The Blues are busy searching for their new manager after Mauricio Pochettino left the club by mutual consent earlier this week.
McKenna has been heavily linked with being the next Chelsea manager in recent days. Should United decide to appoint McKenna, then Chelsea may need to either step up their efforts to bring him to Stamford Bridge or switch to alternative candidates.
As well as McKenna, Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca and Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi have also been linked with the vacancy in West London.
