Breaking news: Ian Evatt revealed 23-years-old midfielder will be joining Premier League club
Bolton Wanderers head coach Ian Evatt has admitted that Paris Maghoma likely won’t return to the Toughsheet Community Stadium this summer after his side failed to return to the Championship.
The last time the Trotters were in England’s second tier was back in the 2018/19 campaign when the club were relegated from the division by winning just eight of their 46 games. Back-to-back relegations put Bolton as low as League Two following turmoil off the pitch with the previous ownership.
However, when Evatt took over in 2020, with the side in the fourth tier, he breathed some life into the Greater Manchester club for the first time in several seasons. Bolton Wanderers won promotion back to League One by finishing third, playing some of the best football in the league.
Unfortunately, Evatt hasn’t been able to guide the Trotters to that next step. Under his guidance, the team have twice been in the play-offs and even reached the final this season where they faced off against Oxford United.
Bolton were the strong favourites to earn promotion to the Championship, joining title-winners Portsmouth and second-placed Derby County, but a brace from ex-Norwich City winger Josh Murphy condemned Evatt’s men to yet another year of League One football.
It will be difficult to sign high-quality players this summer as a result of their failed promotion push, with Evatt even confirming to The Bolton News that Maghoma will not re-sign for the club this summer after the attacker returned from his loan spell to Brentford.
“It is going to be difficult to sign Paris now we are stuck in League One. That is how it is.
“We are thankful for him, thankful for what he has achieved this season, and we wish him well.”
