TRENDING DRAFT NEWS: Commanders could potentially replace another front office employee for the Detroit Lions.

Another important front office member for the Detroit Lions may be on the verge of leaving. The Washington Commanders are “looking to hire” Brandon Sosna, the senior director of football administration for the Lions, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. Although Garafolo refers to the position as a “high-ranking front-office” position, they don’t elaborate on what exactly they have in mind for Sosna.

The Lions front office would suffer a major blow in this case, as general manager Brad Holmes has recently complimented Sosna multiple times in his media sessions.

In March, Holmes stated, “I thought he did a phenomenal job. Last year was kind of his first free agency.” He really outperformed himself this year as well. Me and Dan (Campbell) can talk to him about these guys we’re targeting just by means of all these deals. However, Sosna and Mike Disner are closing those deals.

Sosna’s close involvement with player contracts and the salary cap was crucial to Detroit’s 2024 offseason. Sosna was instrumental in helping the Lions negotiate new deals with offensive tackle Penei Sewell, quarterback Jared Goff, and receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown in just the last month alone.

Sosna was brought on by the Lions less than two years ago, combining professional and collegiate experience. Before joining USC as the chief of staff for athletics, he worked for a few years as a cap specialist for the Cleveland Browns.

Sosna is the third front office player that the Lions have lost to another team in the past year, and the second that the Washington Commander has stolen this offseason. Lance Newmark, a 26-year Lions employee, was appointed assistant general manager by the Commanders in February. Dave Sears was hired by the Arizona Cardinals to be their new assistant general manager last year, meaning the Lions lost him.

To cut a long tale short, the Lions front office is highly sought after and highly regarded.

Having said that, the Lions have added Dwayne Joseph and Tom Roth, two well-liked players, to their front office. We don’t currently have job titles for them because their hirings aren’t official yet.
