Arsenal could look to strike a player-plus-cash deal for Alexander Isak this summer, with Newcastle’s interest in Aaron Ramsdale potentially offering them encouragement over the deal. The Gunners have shortlisted the Magpies talisman as one of their top targets this summer, and a makeweight in negotiations appears to have emerged.

Mikel Arteta could lose right-hand man with Arsenal braced for approach

Mikel Arteta is keen to acquire the services of a striker this summer after opting against bolstering his forward ranks in the January transfer window, with Kai Havertz trusted to hold down the fort until the end of the season.

Numerous options are being explored at the Emirates Stadium, including Premier League-proven stars such as Ivan Toney and Evan Ferguson, as well as top talents elsewhere in Europe like Joshua Zirkzee and Benjamin Sesko.

Isak is also admired in north London, and his 20 goals in 29 league appearances so far this season has highlighted the quality that he could provide to Arsenal’s frontline. The Sweden international is far from a cheap option though, with Newcastle reportedly expected to demand £100million to secure the services of their No. 14.

However, Arsenal may have been thrown a lifeline in negotiations for Isak by Newcastle. The Magpies have shortlisted Ramsdale as their top goalkeeper target this summer and are hopeful of making the England international one of their first signings of the window.

TalkSPORT report that an agreement is not in place at this stage despite speculation, but the interest could prove decisive in how the overall window pans out for Arsenal.

The clash will take place at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and DAZN will be streaming all the fight LIVE.

Ramsdale did not shut the door on a move to St James’ Park when responding to speculation that a deal was already completed, tweeting ‘News to me’, and the prospect of joining Eddie Howe’s side is likely to entice the ex-Bournemouth goalkeeper given that he has slipped down the pecking order at the Emirates.

Arsenal may therefore look to offer their second-choice goalkeeper, along with a significant fee, to Newcastle in exchange for Isak. The Sweden international would solve their striker woes and also provide cover across the attack given that the former Real Sociedad star has been deployed on the wing previously.

Newcastle have begrudgingly accepted that they will need to sell some of their stars this summer to balance the books for Financial Fair Play purposes, and a big-money offer from Arsenal for Isak would certainly test their resolve – especially if Ramsdale is included in the move as it would mean that funds allocated to pursuing the 26-year-old can be spent elsewhere.
