Chiefs reportedly lose key defender to Bills in free agency

The Chiefs have had a fantastic offseason thus far though lost one key defensive contributor today, as safety Mike Edwards signed with the Buffalo Bills.

Edwards was signed last offseason and became a starter after Bryan Cook’s unfortunate injury, routinely making huge plays and serving a massive role on the defense in the postseason.

He’ll leave Kansas City a Super Bowl champion but will be missed as the team attempts to win a third straight Lombardi Trophy.

Edwards finished with 51 tackles, five deflected passes, a sack and interception, adding 12 tackles in the playoffs, including seven in the Super Bowl.

He stepped right in for Cook when the young rising safety went down and the Chiefs didn’t miss a beat. Edwards deserves a chance to start and likely didn’t factor into Kansas City’s secondary plans moving forward, though it’s sad to see a beloved and useful player go either way.

Thank you for everything Chiefs Kingdom! Brought me in with no hesitation and made family! Will always have a special place with me. Love forever! ❤️💛💍 https://t.co/i3ut16tT9S

After spending his first four years in the NFL with the Buccaneers, the former third-round pick now has two Super Bowl rings and will try to help the Bills reach the promised land.

With all due respect to Edwards, here’s hoping he’s not successful.

The Chiefs are +650 to win the Super Bowl while the Bills are +1200. Kansas City has the edge, though we’ve seen a pair of epic playoff battles between the teams in recent years. It feels likely Kansas City will see Buffalo again and now Edwards will see what the other side is like.
