Newcastle have done something no other Premier League team has managed this year, they could break the record

Newcastle United have the chance to make history this season as they could something no other Premier League team has done before.

Since Eddie Howe came in over two years ago now, Newcastle have have been a brilliant team to watch because of their high energy and high intensity style of play which sees them attack with purpose.

As you can see from this graphic from The Athletic, Newcastle could become the first Premier League team to have 21 different scorers in a season, they currently lead the way this year with 19.

Newcastle could make Premier League history

Manchester United currently hold the league record for the most amount of different goalscorers with 20 which they set in the 2012-13 season when they won their final title under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Newcastle now need just two more players to find the back of the net in the final 11 games of the season to break the record, or one to equal the record and still go down in history.

Those who are yet to score obviously include goalkeepers Nick Pope, Martin Dubravka and Loris Karius, but there is also Elliot Anderson and Lewis Hall who have played minutes but are yet to score.

What will have certainly helped their efforts is the 8-0 win over Sheffield United back in September in which Newcastle had eight different scorers as Kieran Trippier also grabbed three assists.

Newcastle still have a lot to play for this season

Not only can Newcastle go down in history this season for their goalscorers, Howe’s side can still make it a very memorable campaign with an FA Cup on the line and European football a real possibility.

Champions League does look just out of reach with Aston Villa edging away in the last few weeks, but Newcastle are just four points off of sixth place which could see them into the Europa League.

That would still be considered a great season for Newcastle’s owners who did not plan to break into the top four for another couple of seasons, so they are still well ahead of schedule.

There’s a very good chance they could end things on a high heading into what could be the most significant summer transfer window of Newcastle’s modern history given the overhaul of the squad that has been suggested.
