Chris Jack has shared a new update on whether Rangers could sign Abdallah Sima in the summer transfer window, amid fears of a “Malik Tillman situation”.
Jack shared that whether or not the deal can be done will depend on the price tag Brighton place on him and whether there is any other interest in securing his signature.
Tillman looked set to join Rangers after his successful Ibrox loan spell but moved to PSV instead with Bayern agreeing to pay £1million to help smooth the deal.
Speaking to The Rangers Review [6 March], Jack shared: “I think the Cortes situation does depend on Sima. Is there a chance that Rangers can do that deal permanently and can get him tied down long-term, and what’s the fee going to be?
“The fee for Sima will be a lot higher than it would be for Cortes. It does come down to what Brighton want for him if they decide that he’s not for them, and what other interest there is.
“I fear we will end up in a Malik Tillman situation with Abdallah Sima. Comes in, fans love him and he loves it here, but somebody comes in with more money and a bigger profile and he moves out of Rangers’ ballpark.”
Will Abdallah Sima make a permanent move to Rangers?
Sima has quickly become a fan-favourite at Ibrox thanks both to his performances since arriving in the summer, with ten goals and two assists in 20 league games before his injury, as well as the attitude he has shown for the club.
The attacker’s attitude has been on display of late after Philippe Clement revealed he had asked to travel with the squad to Lisbon ahead of the Europa League clash with Benfica despite his current injury issue.
After the injury Sima picked up at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year, it had been suggested that he would never play for Rangers again if his recovery took him beyond the end of the season when his loan deal expires.
There has also been speculation that Sima may wish to remain at Ibrox on a permanent deal at the end of the season after his agent claimed he was happy in Glasgow, but whether anything comes from that will likely be decided by his parent club.
