Even though the Premier League transfer window ended last week, Jamaal Lascelles’ Newcastle United future is still up in the air.
During the January transfer window, the 30-year-old defender was linked to a move away from Newcastle United, with Besiktas reportedly exploring a deal for the Toon captain.
With Jamaal Lascelles’ contract at St. James’ Park about to expire in the summer, they were hoping to capitalise on the situation.
Even if Newcastle was unable to find a replacement, Lascelles may still depart the team because the Turkish transfer market remained open until February 9th.
On the other hand, information from Turkey on Sunday suggests that Besiktas’ interest in Lascelles may be coming to an end.
With this trade, Besiktas should give up on Jamaal Lascelles.
Joe Worrall is expected to seal a loan deal with Besiktas after departing Nottingham Forest, as reported by the Athletic. The 27-year-old player, who landed in Turkey after conditions were agreed upon by both clubs, is reportedly scheduled to have a physical.
For Newcastle, this is wonderful news because Worrall plays centre back, just like Lascelles. It is reasonable to presume that Besiktas’ chase of the Toon skipper will come to a stop as a result of this loan agreement.
Eddie Howe, who has been hesitant to let Lascelles go and is now even more so since he cannot sign a successor, will be happy to hear that.
Letting Lascelles go would have been a very risky move.
