The Georgia Bulldogs’ beloved team mascot has died. The University of Georgia shared the sad news on Tuesday (Jan. 23) that its bulldog, Uga X — otherwise known as “Que”— died overnight in his sleep.
Uga X was 10 years old.
We are saddened to announce that Uga X, fondly known as Que, died peacefully in his sleep earlier this morning.

Born May 27, 2013, Que took over duties as UGA’s mascot from his grandfather, Uga IX, in 2015. He was a good boy, and his reign as mascot was a good one, as well, for the UGA Bulldogs. Under his watch the team put together a 91-18 record, including two National Championships.
Being a UGA mascot is serious business, and not just handed out to any all-white English Bulldog. All of the 11 Bulldogs mascots, current and past, are descendants of the first mascot, Uga I, who was introduced in 1956.
But bloodline alone won’t get a pup the job — each puppy is tested in other factors as well, like noise and heat tolerance, looks and easy-going temperament. Of course, Uga V may have failed that last test after he tried to bite Auburn WR Robert Baker on the sidelines in 1996 — a quite famous picture in many UGA fans households.
Que wasn’t a stranger to sideline altercations, as he was nearly on the wrong end of mascot-on-mascot crime when before the 2019 Sugar Bowl, the University of Texas Longhorns’ mascot Bevo charged at Que before handlers could get the big fella under control.
As for Que, he’s preceded in death by Uga I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, IX and VIII. He will be buried in the marble vaults in the south end of Sanford Stadium.

Golfer John Daly

Golfer John Daly
In August 2014, Yahoo wrote: “John Daly made a new country music song and it’s not bad.” We’ll agree with the first half of that sentence. “Hit It Hard” is a soulful country-rocker that showcases Daly’s vocals over a chorus of gospel singers. He sings about going all the way in life, and doing everything at full speed. The semi-autobiographical song gathered airplay on satellite radio.

Collins says he got over a dozen songs cut by other artists during the four years he “hit it hard.” While not a singer, the accomplished NFL quarterback felt he was a strong songwriter, even opening his own publishing company. These days he writes for the joy of it, although he recalls that one time George Strait put a song of his on hold before ultimately passing on it.

Before his 29 No. 1 hits on country radio, Charley Pride was a pitcher in the Negro Leauge, playing for the Memphis Red Sox and Birmingham Black Barons between 1953 and 1958. During one all-star game he faced off against Hank Aaron and Willie Mays. Almost a decade later he’d find success in Nashville.

The one-time Oakland As all-star and multi-time World Series champion with the Giants released a debut album called No Secrets in early 2017. Country music has long been a passion — as early as 2005 he talked about a songwriter career after baseball. His music is described as Americana/folk and country.

The longtime Calgary Flame released his debut country album I Am Who I Am in 2015, but said it was six years in the making. He’s found success as a country artist, especially in Canada. Prior to releasing the record he revealed a long history of sexual abuse as a boy. This helped explain his struggles with substance abuse as an athlete. Needless to say there’s a lot to write about, and his fans have found the hope and courage they need to begin healing.

The NFL Hall of Fame quarterback has a Top 20 hit on his resume. In the mid-70s he covered Hank Williams’ “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” and ran it up the charts. Follow-ups from an album by the same name were not quite as successful. It’s easy to say he notched the hit because he was an NFL star, but as a singer, Bradshaw isn’t horrible.

By far Reid is the most accomplished country musician who started as a professional athlete. He played in the NFL in the 1970s, then started writing hit songs for Ronnie Milsap, Conway Twitty and more. “Stranger in My House” won him a Grammy. In total he notched 12 No. 1 hits, was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and carried on a successful career as an artist on Columbia Records.

The late Rob Bironas was an aspiring singer-songwriter with famous friends in Nashville. When he died in September 2014 everyone from Carrie Underwood to Dierks Bentley paid respects. Kellie Pickler ran a marathon on his behalf. Bironas was married to singer Rachel Bradshaw, the daughter of quarterback Terry Bradshaw.

This one is a stretch, but Keith did play semi-pro football in the early ’80s before taking on odd jobs and eventually becoming a country music superstar. His team was the Oklahoma City Drillers.

Long before he became Colt Ford, Jason Brown was a golfer on the Nationwide Tour, the league just below the PGA. His career peaked in the ’90s, but along the way he played with and got know notable golfers like Tiger Woods. In the mid-00s he’d be the first to popularize the blend of country music and hip-hop.

After his a successful career in the NFL, this former first-round pick formed the Kyle Turley Band, a “power country” band that once toured with Hank Williams III. He went on to dive into hard rock and form his own record label.

The “Lightning Does the Work” singer wrestled in the WCW in the mid-90s, while he was finding success in country music. YouTube clips are plentiful, but we give the “Yes” singer a big “No!” when we see him donning purple underpants.
