Report: Third Newcastle loanee linked with a return to the club but this one looks less likely

If there’s one thing Newcastle United have struggled with since the PIF took over it’s getting rid of unwanted players.

Newcastle have enough dead wood to build a flimsy log cabin, but because of the high wages and long contracts they’re on, they are almost impossible to shift which is why so many of our duds are out on loan.

Isaac Hayden is, as things stand, at Standard Liege in Belgium but it’s believed he will be returning to St James’ Park this month after no living up to expectations. There are said to be Championship clubs interested in Hayden so we might be able to get him straight back out on loan again this month.

Ryan Fraser is unlikely to stay at Southampton when his loan ends

Yesterday, Southampton boss Russell Martin claimed that while he’d love to keep Ryan Fraser beyond his loan spell that seems unlikely thanks to the finances involved. That leaves Newcastle with another task of trying to ship him out because there’s no way Eddie Howe will want him around the club.

Now, The Star believes that Sheffield Wednesday want to send their loanee back – Jeff Hendrick. The Ireland international is currently injured and is taking up valuable squad space at The Owls who are fighting for their lives in the Championship.

The report claims that it looks likely that Hendrick will have to stay put (cue the massive sighs of relief around Newcastle).

Hendrick’s contract at Newcastle expires in the summer

Hendrick was signed on a free by the previous regime and scored a beaut of a goal on his Premier League debut and then very quickly started to show his true colours – a very nasty shade of brown.

Jeff Hendrick

Even though he’s been on the books at Newcastle for three years, two of those have been spent elsewhere as he has been deemed not good enough for our squad, and as a result, impossible to shift thanks again to those higher wages. He’s a Championship player at best on a Premier League wage and that makes things hard for the club.

The good news is that his Newcastle contract expires in the summer so when his loan ends at Sheffield Wednesday he’s not our problem anymore.
