Ipswich Town and Kieran McKenna must be incredibly smart in the January transfer window if they hope for promotion.
The club will have some big decisions to make in terms of strengthening their squad and allowing players to depart. So far, two new signings have arrived at Portman Road which has excited the Ipswich faithful.
Firstly, Jeremy Sarmiento joined on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion until the end of the season. The versatile forward enjoyed a bright spell on loan at West Brom for the first half of the season, but he now links up with promotion rivals in order to continue his development.
Then, 26-year-old midfielder, Lewis Travis arrived on loan from Blackburn Rovers after seeing his game time decline this season, despite wearing the captain’s armband. Ipswich remain in the top two, having lost just three league games all season, but January could make or break their promotion hopes. Ipswich reject El Mizouni bids
According to a report from the East Anglian Daily Times, a number of League One clubs have seen transfer bids for Idris El Mizouni get rejected. Bolton Wanderers, Barnsley, Oxford United and Wycombe Wanderers are among the interested clubs, but Ipswich seem very keen to keep a hold of their man, after rejecting low six-figure transfer bids.
The Tunisian midfielder has been one of Leyton Orient’s standout players this season and last, during his loan spell from Ipswich Town. His performances have made him a popular figure at Brisbane Road, and his parent club, Ipswich, will be hoping he can slot into their squad at the end of his loan spell.
The interest from League One clubs is certainly justified, but he is very capable of playing for Championship high-flyers Ipswich next season.
Jeremy Sarmiento makes his debut
Last week, Ipswich made their first signing of the January transfer window with Sarmiento arriving on loan from Brighton after a successful spell with West Brom. The 21-year-old made his debut this weekend as Ipswich travelled to AFC Wimbledon in the third round of the FA Cup.
Sarmiento started on the bench as Ipswich picked up a 3-1 victory against League Two opposition in South London. The Ipswich faithful were treated to their first glimpse of the new signing as Sarmiento was introduced as a substitute on the 57th minute, replacing Freddie Ladapo.
Kieffer Moore’s situation
Ipswich are among the many Championship clubs hoping to sign Kieffer Moore this January, on loan from Bournemouth. The striker has failed to make a single start in the Premier League this season for Bournemouth and is expected to spend the second half of the season in the second tier.
Although Ipswich will be desperate to get a deal over the line, a recent reveal suggests that other clubs will be favoured by the player. Alan Nixon reported that Moore is likely to follow the best deal for himself, which includes the highest wages possible.
Unfortunately for Ipswich, this would put Leeds United in the driving seat for the Wales international as they have the highest wage budget out of the teams interested in Moore.
