‘Oh no’… £55,000 per week magpies star now shares how he really felt about Newcastle taking team photo on Sunderland’s pitch

Dan Burn has now revealed how he really felt about taking a team photo with his Newcastle United teammates on the pitch after a big win against Sunderland.

It was Jason Tindall’s idea to get all of the players standing in front of the fans for the photo, an impromptu decision that proved to be very popular amongst the supporters.

In an interview with the i, Burn claimed that he was hesitant when he first heard the idea but knew that it would have topped off a brilliant day for the fans.

Burn was initially worried about Newcastle’s team photo

It’s fair to say that the idea of taking a photo on the pitch didn’t exactly go down well with the Sunderland fans who had stuck around after the full-time whistle for Newcastle’s 3-0 derby win.

The away supporters, however, could not have been more excited having waited almost 13 years to taste victory in this fixture, so they were going to make the most of it.

As a boyhood fan of the club, Burn knew how much this meant to the fans and how big of a day out it was, particularly with the game kicking off so early.

While the former Brighton defender may not have been on his best form as of late, he played his part well on Saturday and his leadership in a game like this is invaluable to the rest of the players.

After the game, Burn said: “When they said they were doing that I was like ‘Oh no!’ but the fans will love it.

“It was a day for them more than anything, they’ve backed us so well and hopefully we’ve been able to give a bit back.”

Newcastle have got some confidence back

If there’s one thing you can take away from Saturday’s game it’s that Newcastle looked like the team they were earlier in the season and during most of the previous campaign.

The high intensity play was back, everyone was pressing up high and their opposition didn’t know how to deal with it, something that’s been missing from their most recent run of games.

With no Champions League fixtures to deal with, the hope is that Newcastle can actually revert back to how they were playing last season with more rest days now available to the squad and the injury crisis slowly resolving.
