Chris Jack has claimed Rangers checked out a potential January transfer deal for Nottingham Forest striker Emmanuel Dennis last week, although no deal is imminent at Ibrox.
The Rangers Review journalist reported that Dennis is one of several names on Rangers’ list of January transfer targets after they received encouragement about a potential deal.
He continued by saying that the Nigerian is one the Ibrox club have had a look at but clarified no deal is in motion yet despite the initial positivity.
Speaking to The Rangers Review [8 January], Jack reported: “He was checked out last week, and there was a lot of encouragement on that one, so he may still be a name that’s on the list.
“He may still be someone that Rangers have had a look at, but I don’t think there’s anything imminent in terms of that one.”
One of several options
As is the case at the start of every transfer window, Rangers will be assessing their options and who they want to make a move for, with the names forming a list and likely candidates emerging for a January deal.
In this case, where the aim for the transfer window has become clear with the Ibrox club needing a striker, talks will be held with several parties before they decide on who their number one target will be, as they must get the right man in.
Dennis is currently on loan at Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir from Forest, so any move to Rangers would require the English side to negotiate a termination of his loan deal which would free him up for a move to Ibrox.
Dennis has played just eight times so far this season and has not scored a single goal in Turkey, but Rangers may be encouraged by his previous goalscoring exploits in England before his move to Forest saw the performances and the goals take a dip.
