Chargers News: Travis Kelce’s Major Reason To Play Vs LA Has Nothing To Do With Taylor Swift

In the upcoming final match of the season, the Los Angeles Chargers are set to face off against their division rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs. However, the Chargers will be meeting the Chiefs without their standout quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs have secured the third seed in the AFC regardless of the game’s result. Consequently, the Chargers will be contending against Blaine Gabbert, the backup quarterback who will take the helm as QB1 for the Chiefs. However, Gabbert might not have the support of the team’s top pass catcher, tight end Travis Kelce, who could potentially be absent from the game. While Kansas City doesn’t have much at stake in this match, Coach Andy Reid has yet to finalize the decision regarding Kelce’s participation.

Despite the team having little to win or lose, there’s substantial significance attached to Kelce’s performance. He stands a mere 16 receiving yards away from achieving his eighth consecutive season with 1,000 receiving yards. Kelce is known for his team-first attitude, implying that if he opts not to play, it won’t be solely for personal achievement. Gabbert, in an interview with Emily Bicks of Heavy, expressed his commitment to doing everything in his power to assist Kelce in reaching the 1K yard milestone if Kelce decides to take the field. Gabbert stated, “If he wants to play, he’ll play. If Coach Reid says have him rest, he’s gonna rest. Ultimately that’s on Coach Reid, but if we’re out there we’re going to do our damn best to get him 17 yards… [Kelce] may say it doesn’t mean anything, but it means something to the quarterback and for this organization for him to get 1,000 yards.”

Given Kelce’s prolonged dominance in the league, the pursuit of this record makes it improbable for Kelce to opt for sitting out against the Chargers. Both the Chiefs and Gabbert are expected to focus on strategically involving Travis Kelce from the start to swiftly reach the 1,000-yard mark. Kelce currently holds the fourth position in receiving yards among tight ends, trailing Antonio Gates, who stands at third with 11,841 yards. Despite the off-field attention this season, Kelce’s performance on the field solidifies his position among the elite pass catchers in the league. The pivotal question remains: Will Coach Reid place Kelce on the field or attempt to secure those 16 yards to maintain Kelce’s streak? The answer will unfold in due time.
