2025 wide receiver Joakim Dodson has been an early in-state priority for the Tennessee coaching staff. He first went to a Tennessee camp on June 4th, 2022, and following that, he went on an unofficial visit for the Alabama game in 2022. He was later offered by the Vols back in January 2023. He then attended a junior day, camp, and another unofficial visit for the Texas A&M game. Dodson is the No. 533 prospect in the 2025 class, according to the 247Sports’ Composite Rankings, and he recently caught up with me about his recruitment.
When asked how his recruitment process has been going, he responded, “It’s been smooth so far; it hasn’t gotten too hectic yet. I’ve been hearing from Tennessee, Missouri, Cincinnati, and Mississippi State consistently through the process thus far.” Dodson had also talked about Tennessee making him feel like a priority. “Yeah, I definitely feel like a priority. I talk to someone from the staff almost every day and have great relationships with them all. Coach Heupel came up to my school to see me during the December contact period, and they’re always telling me how they want me on Rocky Top,” Dodson states.
He also talks about the other schools that are making him feel like a priority by saying, “Yeah, Missouri and Cincinnati are two schools that I hear from a lot, and they’re always keeping in contact with me. I have a great relationship with Missouri’s whole staff, and when I went up there for a visit early in October, I felt like a priority for them. Coach Drink also came up to my school during the contact period in December. As far as Cincinnati, I have a great relationship with Coach Glenn, the offensive coordinator, and I want to keep developing that relationship because it’s a first-year staff. I’ve also been hearing from the new staff at Mississippi State, and I’m pretty sure I’ll be going up there for a junior day in January.”
Considering he mentioned junior days, he was asked if he planned to visit a Tennessee junior day. The wideout simply responded, “Yes. February 3rd.” The in-state prospect then talks about what’s next and if cutting schools is in the near future. The Collierville wideout then stated, “Yeah, I want to take as much time as possible, so I won’t be cutting down my list any time soon because I think it could be some new schools that get in the mix in the January contact period.”
Digging deeper into his relationship with the Tennessee staff and, more specifically, wide receivers coach Kelsey Pope and Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel, he states, “Really good. I talk to each of them probably every other day, and they’re always checking up on me, and they also have good relationships with my family.” Finally, he was asked if any recruit or commit had been pushing hard for him. He responds, “My quarterback, Aidan Glover, who’s signed to Missouri, has been pushing hard for me.”
