Sky Sports: Rangers attacker could leave this month amid ‘urgency’ to complete further signing

Rangers have an “urgency” to bolster their attack despite the arrival of Fabio Silva but Scott Wright could leave the club during the transfer window, according to Sky Sports.

Speaking live on Good Morning Transfers on 3 January reporter Mark Benstead suggested that the Wolves loanee would not likely be the regular goalscorer that Philippe Clement needs, and with Abdallah Sima now joining Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations further help in front of goal is sought.

However, Scottish winger Wright could be moving in the opposite direction after his failed move to Turkey in the summer, with interest also present from Italy in defender Ridvan Yilmaz.

Benstead said (9.35am): “There’s an urgency for Rangers to bolster their attacking options. They may need cover at left-back too because there is reported interest by Sky Italy from Verona in Ridvan Yilmaz so that’s one to watch as well…

“There might be one or two outgoings, I mentioned the interest in Yilmaz. Someone like Scott Wright as well may move out potentially.

“He almost left in the summer to Turkey, that move fell through, he stayed and made a contribution but he could be someone they may look to move on this window.”

One in, one out

Wright’s role has been greater than might have been expected since Clement arrived but his position at Ibrox has never been as a leading contributor.

He might be worth keeping around given the endless injury issues at the club, especially with Sima set to be away for a few weeks and with Ross McCausland still developing.

But if anyone were willing to offer half-reasonable money then it wouldn’t be a surprise for the manager to be willing to sacrifice the 26-year-old.

If Clement is going to be able to land an out-and-out goalscorer before the window shuts again then the club will likely have to investigate all avenues of making it happen, with the summer spending sure to make it harder to come up with a big fee.

So if cash is put on the table for anyone who isn’t a certain starter then Rangers will have to consider it, including for Yilmaz.

The Turkish defender put in a good performance in the 3-1 victory over Kilmarnock but has failed to dislodge Borna Barisic in 18-months at the club.

Rangers

He may well come good if he could ever stay fit enough to start for a long stretch but sacrifices will probably need to be made if the Light Blues are going to strengthen in the key area.

Clement has confirmed he expects to be active during the winter break assessing further incomings, so movement in the opposite direction can’t be ruled out either.
