The Milwaukee Brewers and New York Yankees previously executed a trade this off-season. In November power hitting Jake Bauers was dealt to the Brew Crew in exchange for prospects Jace Avina and Brian Sanchez. This deal went down on the day of the non-tender deadline.
With the Brewers Bauers figures to have a role at first base and designated hitter. Avina, who slots in as the Yankees 29th ranked prospect, and 19 year old Sanchez will require more development before making an impact at the major league level.
There is still plenty of off-season left and it is possible that the two sides could come to terms on another trade. A Yankees fan site titled Bombers Coverage recently put up a hypothetical trade proposal that gave Milwaukee three top 30 prospects in exchange for Corbin Burnes.
Trade proposal sends Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Corbin Burnes to the New York Yankees.
Brewers receive:
- OF Everson Pereira
- SS Roderick Arias
- RHP Clayton Beeter
Yankees receive:
- RHP Corbin Burnes
This proposed trade includes the Yankees third ranked prospect (Pereira), sixth ranked prospect (Arias), and 14th ranked prospect (Beeter). Of these three Pereira has made his MLB debut whereas Beeter has reached Triple-A and Arias is just 19 years old.
Looking further Pereira is an aggressive hitter at the plate who swings often, slugs the ball, and has a track record of success in the minor leagues. He does have a tendency to strikeout frequently, but when he puts the ball in play he often does damage and hits the ball hard. His aggression and power arsenal would make him unique from the other Brewers outfield prospects, but he has just one minor league option remaining and struggled in a month’s worth of big league games last year.
As for Beeter the long term outlook on him is that he projects best as a relief pitcher instead of a starting pitcher. His slider has a grade of 65 and his fastball can touch 98 MPH, but command remains an issue. On the other hand Arias was formerly MLB Pipeline’s top ranked prospect from the 2022 Intentional Signing period and he is advanced defensively while also possessing a ton of speed.
Would you accept this hypothetical trade between the Brewers and Yankees?
