Andy Halliday has effectively suggested one Rangers striker’s time at the club is coming to an end.
Kemar Roofe is undoubtedly the best finisher at the disposal of Philippe Clement, certainly ahead of summer signings Cyriel Dessers and Danilo.
But the Englishman who signed for Rangers in 2020 has been plagued with injuries from almost the moment he first donned a Light Blue jersey and for the umpteenth time, he is crocked again.
Roofe hobbled off the park against St Johnstone before Christmas and has left Rangers very short as far as attacking options are concerned.
Dessers is now the only fit and available striker at the club and as a result of Roofe’s latest setback, Clement hinted he may now dip into the transfer market to recruit a No9 – and it wouldn’t be a surprise even after the loan acquisition of Fabio Silva from Wolves.
Andy Halliday on Kemar Roofe
Roofe is out of contract at the end of the season and Halliday, speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, has hinted Rangers would be happy to cut ties at the end of his Ibrox deal.
The Hearts midfielder and renowned Rangers fan said: “I think we’ve got to the point now and I really don’t mean any disrespect by it but you just can’t rely on Kemar Roofe staying fit.
“It is injury after injury in different areas of his body he’s breaking down with. And he shows he is a capable player any time he plays for Rangers.
“But I think for the type of player he is and the fair whack of money he’s on as well, he’s just someone who can’t stay fit for any length of time.
“What happens if (Cyriel) Dessers gets an injury? It’s happened to Danilo and by all accounts, it seems Danilo is going to miss the rest of the season.
“There’s no guarantee, like any signing, that Fabio Silva is going to hit the ground running and be successful. So again, I think Rangers need to bring in one more in that department.”
