Report: There is now real concern at St. James’ Park that Newcastle man could leave soon

Newcastle United are growing more and more concerned that they may lose Dan Ashworth amid interest from Manchester United.

Jim Ratcliffe, who recently bought a 25% stake in Man United, is very keen on bringing Ashworth to the club who already has a good relationship with Dave Brailsford who is also now working at the club.

Ashworth is key to Newcastle’s future

In the short time that he’s been here, Ashworth has already helped to massively improve the clubs stature and infrastructure, placing a large emphasis on investing in the academy side of the club.

Newcastle have spent a lot of time trying to assemble a brilliant team behind the scenes to grow the club both on and off the pitch, but losing Ashworth would deliver a huge blow to the progress that’s been made.

The 52-year-old was one of the first names that Newcastle identified to lead the club into this new era and it was considered a big coup for the club given Ashworth’s impressive work at Brighton and with the England setup.

This summer will be huge in terms of what kind of progression Newcastle are looking to make next season and the hope is that Ashworth will be overseeing it, but the worry is they can’t compete with Man United’s offer.

Newcastle may need to rethink their project

Newcastle have identified possible replacements for Ashworth should he leave, but it may change the trajectory of the club just over a year after this new era began.

Bournemouth’s Richard Hughes, a good friend of Eddie Howe, has been rumoured to be one of the name’s that Newcastle are considering.

While it is certain that nobody is bigger than the club, this is perhaps one key figure that Newcastle would even consider irreplaceable given all the great work that he’s done and is still doing behind the scenes.
