West Brom were supposed to be ushering in a new era come the tail end of December, but the silence with regards to the takeover situation is deafening.
It has now been a little over two weeks since John Percy reported for The Telegraph that majority shareholder Guochuan Lai was in advanced talks with three consortiums, including one from US and one from Nigeria, over £60million deal.
Percy suggested that Lai would grant exclusivity to one of those parties within the next 10 days – so by December 22 – with hope among supporters that something official would then be in place come the January transfer window. There is always a chance, of course, that an agreement has quietly been reached behind the scenes and that everything is indeed on course to go through smoothly very soon.
However, the lack of any sort of update is somewhat worrying given the transfer window opens next week.
It is not the be-all and end-all that new owners are in place by then, but it would ease the fears of supporters that at least one first-team player will have to be sold.Of even more concern is that this takeover could go back to square one if talks with the preferred bidder, whoever that may be, have reached an impasse.

All that matters is that disinterested Lai is ousted as soon as possible so that the club can begin to pay off its debts and forget about taking out any further loans.
In an ideal world, that will happen in days or weeks, rather than months.
All anxious supporters can do for now is sit tight and hope that the next update – whether from the club or a journalist – is a positive one.
In other West Brom news, Jeremy Sarmiento sent a five-word message to one of his team-mates after an injury update.
