Lewis Miley, a teenager from Newcastle, is a future Newcastle and England star.
And head coach Eddie Howe has lauded the 17-year-old player for his maturity in what have been some difficult and demanding games for Newcastle recently due to our enormous injury list.
The game at Everton, which turned out to be a disaster for us – similar to the 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth – was the teenager’s fourth start in a row, and he now has eight first-team outings for the club.
Miley has played 10 times for the England U17 team and twice for the England U19 team, and we expect him to be called up to the England U21 squad next.
Eddie Howe is cautious about introducing kids into the first team because he does not want to put too much pressure on them too soon.
But Howe has been quite impressed with Miley’s performance in what has been a difficult period for Newcastle due to the numerous injuries.
During Howe’s post-Everton press conference, the head coach lauded the teenager:
“You have to take into account Lewy Miley, looking at him individually and his age and being able to deal with not just the games but the pressure that the games bring.”
“It’s a huge ask for him but again I thought tonight he handled himself really well.”
This kid is so brilliant that he may be a regular starter for Newcastle at this time next year – but we (I) shouldn’t put too much pressure on him.
Eddie Howe seemed to have been shocked by his maturity as a player and a person, and the boy is in very good hands having Howe as his head coach while he is so young.
He was born in Stanley, County Durgam, and his older brother Jamie is also a defender on Newcastle’s books.
It’s heartwarming to see the young men come through the ranks, especially Miley, who appears to be something special.
