Former Premier League midfielder Ruben Neves has been linked with a January loan transfer to Newcastle United.
Ruben Neves, a former Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder, has ruled out joining Newcastle United on loan during the January transfer window.
Premier League clubs met in London last month to vote on whether to impose a temporary ban on incoming loan signings between clubs owned by the same person.
The block was approved by twelve teams and rejected by eight. The resolution lost by two votes since the minimum number of clubs required to pass it was 14.
The Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia owns 80% of Newcastle, as well as four Saudi Pro League clubs: Al Hilal, Al Nassr, Al Ahli, and Al Ittihad.
The Magpies have been linked with a bid for Al Hilal’s Neves, who left Wolves for £47 million six months ago.
United are considering bringing in a midfielder in January to replace Sandro Tonali. Following an inquiry into unlawful betting activity, the Italian has been suspended from football until August 2024.
Newcastle sources have batted down a move for Neves, and the player himself has stated that he will not be leaving the Middle East next month.
“I don’t go,” he answered when asked about his Newcastle connections. “I believe that’s rumor because of the club’s owner, and also because I’ve played in England.” There was attention from Newcastle before I got here, but I’m incredibly pleased here, and my family is really happy here.
“Of course, money is one of the things that cannot be hidden, but when you see the project, and I know a lot of people think we say this just to say it, but it’s not true.”
