Pundit angrily reacts to Everton star after Anthony Gordon incident v Newcastle

Jordan Pickford was accused by Lucy Ward of drawing a foul on Anthony Gordon in order to generate a cheer from Everton fans during their 3-0 win over Newcastle United on Thursday night.

Gordon collided with Pickford just before halftime after the Blues’ goalkeeper took a little longer than necessary to clear his lines with the ball at his feet.

According to Ward, the ex-Sunderland goalkeeper was never truly under threat from Newcastle’s in-form forward, but he played to the situation to get a free-kick out of him.

The former Leeds Women player said on Amazon Prime’s live coverage on Thursday night (7 December, 08:19pm): “I do think Pickford just waited for that split second longer just to try and take it past [Gordon] for a little bit of a roar from the crowd.”

Newcastle fans mocked Pickford for being an ex-Sunderland player, while Everton fans called him “England’s number one”.

Evertonians relished that moment.

They’ll have relished seeing Gordon go off the pitch with his tail between his legs after the Toffees defeated Eddie Howe’s team 3-0.

Gordon left Goodison Park in contentious circumstances about a year ago.

He’d abandoned his so-called boyhood club to seek the millions on offer at the state-owned monster in the North East.

That’s all right, Anthony. But no amount of money will make you stop sobbing yourself to sleep over losing at your old haunts, with Sunderland’s former goalkeeper making you look like a fool.

Everton deserved this after being docked ten points. It will be much easier for Evertonians to sleep at night if Sean Dyche’s team continue to win and maintain their position outside of the Premier League’s relegation zone.

What makes things even better is that the traitorous Gordon was defeated at Goodison Park.

Newcastle are reportedly “likely” to pay Everton £5 million.
