Sunderland now set to hold talks over move to bring attacking 4-3-3 manager

Tony Mowbray’s replacement is required at the Stadium of Light…

Sunderland recently parted ways with Tony Mowbray and are now looking for a new manager to take over at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland search for a new manager…

Sunderland parted ways with Mowbray earlier this week, following a run of just one victory in their past five Championship matches, leaving the North East-based club ninth in the league standings with 28 points from 19 games played.

According to Sky Sports, Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman explained why the Black Cats made this decision, saying:

“He helped guide us to the Championship play-offs after arriving at an uncertain time and played an important role in developing our team.” This was a difficult decision to make, but we remained committed to our ambition and strategy, and felt that the time had come to take this step.”

Naturally, speculation will now abound as Sunderland looks for a replacement. Will Still of Reims and Kieran McKenna of Ipswich Town have been touted as two early possibilities for the post, with both thought to fit the Black Cats’ objective of a young emerging coach to succeed Mowbray.

However, as per the latest developments, Sunderland are now set to meet with a highly-regarded boss as they explore different options ahead of making a potential appointment.

UPPGIFTER: Kim Hellberg på väg bort från IFK Värnamo

Sunderland pencil in Kim Hellberg talks…

According to Fotbollskanalen, Sunderland will meet with IFK Varnamo manager Kim Hellberg on Thursday to discuss the managerial position at the Stadium of Light. Formerly a player with Dagsbergs IF, he is poised to become a free agent when his contract expires in the south of Sweden at the end of 2023.

Hellberg, 35, has only ever managed in his native Sweden, but he is well regarded in his homeland, where he led his team to a fifth-place finish in the Allsvenskan in 2023. His promising work has not gone unnoticed, with IFK Norrkoping and Hammarby also rumored to be interested.

Hellberg, a youthful coach with a growing reputation, loves his teams to play in an offensive 4-3-3 shape and has a points-per-game average of 1.38 in 64 games in charge at Finnvedsvallen (Hellberg management statistics – Transfermarkt).

Hellberg may be making a significant leap by leaving the Swedish top flight for a team with the historical heritage of Sunderland; yet, he may welcome the challenge of proving his management ability in the North East.
