Newcastle United is set to take on Chelsea in the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup, with Eddie Howe aiming to surpass last season’s performance in the tournament. The team’s journey in the Carabao Cup has been impressive, as they eliminated both Manchester City and Manchester United. Their remarkable victory over Manchester United on Wednesday, with a commanding 3-0 win on the opponents’ turf, was particularly noteworthy.

What’s remarkable is that this victory was achieved using a combination of reserve players and young talents, one of whom may not be available for the upcoming quarterfinal match. Lewis Hall, who made a significant impact, scoring Newcastle’s second goal at Old Trafford with a skillful volley, marked his first professional goal in a spectacular manner.

Hall, who is only 19 years old, delivered an outstanding performance in his second start for Newcastle, both of which occurred in the Carabao Cup. Unfortunately, Hall won’t be able to make it a hat-trick of League Cup starts for Newcastle in black and white because their next opponent is Chelsea, the club from which Hall is currently on loan. While he is set to join Newcastle permanently in the summer, his current loan status makes him ineligible to play against his parent club, Chelsea.

The sole possibility for his participation would be if Chelsea grants permission to Newcastle. An update on this matter has been shared by Craig Hope from the Daily Mail.

In a recent post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Craig Hope has communicated Newcastle’s position regarding the situation involving Lewis Hall and the Carabao Cup. His statement reads, “In addition to this, I’ve been informed that Newcastle anticipates Lewis Hall won’t be eligible to play against Chelsea in the quarter-final.”

Newcastle doesn’t anticipate Hall’s involvement at Stamford Bridge, and this is indeed regrettable. However, it’s not unexpected. While he’s set to become a permanent Newcastle player next year, he is still technically under Chelsea’s ownership, and it would be unreasonable for Chelsea to assist Newcastle in such a high-stakes match.

As a result, another player will have to take on the left-back role at Stamford Bridge next month. This responsibility will likely fall to either Dan Burn or Matt Targett, provided that the 28-year-old Targett has recovered from his injury.

For Hall, his hope lies in the opportunity to start for Newcastle in the Premier League soon, as his Carabao Cup contributions will have to be temporarily put on hold.
